Adult Electives – Caring for Friends

March 22 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Caring for Friends is a 50+ year old volunteer organization.  We have one focus…to feed people.  In 1974 our founder Rita Ungaro Schiavone, started to serve those in need in her neighborhood by cooking homemade meals, freezing them and then visiting with them while bringing the food.  She believed that no one should be hungry or alone in a world of caring people.  This home-delivered meal program is the base of what became Caring for Friends.

Our organization currently supports over 250 food pantries throughout the 5 counties of Philadelphia as a food bank. Delivers meals to hundreds of seniors and homebound individuals using her initial “visitor” methodology.  Supports senior low income housing building and schools through pantry building and communal meals. Provides the materials for outside organizations, like yours, to cook meals, prepare snack bags, make sandwiches or collect food.  We have mobilized one of the largest volunteer bases in the area (over 10,000 strong) to help serve the universal mission of feeding those in need.

We will be on hand Sunday March 22 during Adult Electives to explain how you can help those in your community. Together we can take a “bite” out of hunger in Philadelphia. Please join us to learn more.
